Lake City’s Pioneer Days Festival has been a tradition in the neighborhood for more than 70 years – predating Seafair itself. This year, the North Seattle Chamber of Commerce (event host) is revamping the festival. It will still take place the first weekend in August, but big changes are in store!
With a nod towards the annual Salmon Bake, the festival will now operate under a new name – SalmonFest Seattle. The Chamber is sponsoring a Cooks of Many Cultures Salmon Cook-Off in July to kickstart the summer fun. Interested in sharing your unique salmon seasoning and cooking techniques? Contact email@example.com for more info.
The event is also growing. The street festival will expand from a one-day to a two-day format. Expect more arts and crafts vendors and enjoy the new juried arts & crafts component. In addition to Friday’s Salmon Bake, there’ll be a new Boogie Bump dance Friday night featuring music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Old favorites like the vintage car show, Saturday main parade and kiddie parade will return, along with many new elements, including: a street dance, beer garden, and pet city. Sunday brings a continuation of the street festival, as well as a special section for pet vendors and the August Dogfest Contest, where your pooch can compete for one of the coveted costume awards! Ongoing kids activities will be featured throughout both days.
